Current site functions
The production site uses Google Analytics 4 for website measurement and does not currently load Google AdSense ads. It does not provide user accounts, public comments or a location-permission feature. The hosting layer uses Cloudflare services and may add its Web Analytics script.
Cloudflare describes Web Analytics as cookieless measurement that does not use client-side cookies or local storage to collect usage metrics. The script may load independently of this site's optional-service preference. It is not accurate to describe that script as loading only after this site's Allow button is used.
Hosting and browser requests necessarily involve connection information such as IP addresses and request details. Cloudflare processes information under its privacy policy; the publisher does not promise that a preference stored in the page controls all hosting-layer processing.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand page views, traffic sources and website interactions. The Google tag loads automatically on our live website, without waiting for a choice in our privacy-preference control. Local development and preview hosts do not load the tag. It may set and read first-party Analytics cookies, including _ga and related session cookies, to distinguish visits and sessions.
Analytics can collect page URLs and titles, referring URLs, browser and device information, and interactions enabled in our Analytics settings, such as clicks, form interactions or downloads. Our tag disables Google signals and advertising-personalisation signals. We do not add names, email addresses, calculator input values or worksheet contents as custom Analytics parameters.
Our preference buttons do not currently disable Google Analytics. Read Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Where supported, Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on can prevent Analytics JavaScript from sharing visit activity; it does not control Cloudflare or other measurement services.
Calculator inputs and worksheet downloads
The Swell Component Lab calculates the values you enter in your browser. The calculator's own code does not upload those numbers or save them in site storage. Site-wide Analytics can measure page visits and interactions as described above. When you choose CSV export, your browser creates a file containing the entered numbers and results for you to save on your device. Reloading the page returns the teaching example.
The BMX and layering CSV worksheets are downloadable files. Changes you make to a downloaded worksheet are not uploaded to this site. Your browser or spreadsheet software may separately store files or synchronise them according to its own settings.
Your saved preference
The Privacy preferences control stores either an allow or reject choice in your browser's local storage under ashq-consent. It records a preference for future optional services and is not currently connected to Analytics or advertising tags. Changing it does not stop Google Analytics collection. This saved preference uses local storage rather than a Cookie; Analytics uses separate cookies.
You can reopen the control here or in the footer and change the choice at any time. Clearing Cookies alone may leave local storage intact; clearing this site's stored data in your browser also removes the saved choice.
Contact messages
If you email us, your email address, message and any information you choose to include are processed to respond to your request and handle the editorial or privacy matter. Avoid including sensitive information that is not needed for that purpose. Requests concerning a message can be sent to the same address.
Before advertising is introduced
If Google advertising is activated, this policy and the actual consent mechanism must be updated for the services in use. Google and other advertising parties may collect, share and use information through Cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and other identifiers for purposes such as ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention and, where permitted, personalisation.
Read how Google uses information and Google's advertising controls. The parties and actual data uses must be identified in the active disclosures rather than assumed from a generic Cookie paragraph.
The current preference control is not a Google-certified consent management platform. Before Google advertising is introduced, the applicable Google consent requirements must be implemented. Serving personalised ads to users in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland requires a Google-certified CMP integrated with the IAB TCF, with appropriate preference and withdrawal controls.
Questions and changes
Depending on your location, you may have rights concerning access, correction, deletion or other uses of your information. Contact us to explain your request. This page will be revised when the site's services change; a new policy date does not itself create consent for a new optional service.
